To Add A Photo Or Not – That Is The Question

April 8th, 2009

To add a photo or not – that is the question. There are obvious advantages or disadvantages to adding your photo to any business card printing. Let us look at them and you decide whether to add or not to add.

Name Recall
If you want a name to be remembered easily, put a face to it. That is an advice I heard from experts on how you could improve your ability to remember names. The trick is how you associate the name with the face. Take this name/face recall strategy that I always use. For instance, if someone introduces himself to me as Rick, I would try to find something in his face that would sound like his first name, hence, Rick who has a beak or Lucy who appears to be always busy.

With a photo on your business card, whether it’s produced by an online business card printing company or otherwise, clients are more likely to remember you. So when a client rummages through her business card organizer, the photo on your business card printing would help her remember you. And chances are, they would get in touch with you right away.

Disadvantage:
The photo on your business card printing might have been taken several years ago when you were 30 pounds lighter. So I am sure that a photo like this would not help your clients remember you upon seeing you again. Unless you print your business cards regularly, your old photos can make your cards also look obsolete. Nowadays, this task is easier with the advent of online business card printing. Today you can design and have your business card printed anytime of the day.

Face and Trust
Photos build trust. Have you ever wondered why politicians attach their photos on their business cards? Well, the photo can convey a sense of familiarity, a sense of trust. So if you are going to call on a client and this is the first time you are going to meet him or her, it would be an advantage if you could send a business card with your photo on it. It is not only thoughtful; it will also help to put your client at ease with you. Try it.

Disadvantage:
Let’s face it, some people are harsh. They judge a person by how he or she looks like and a photo on a business card is no exception. If you look scruffy or disheveled in that photo, better think twice before you let your client get their hands on your cards. Even an online business card printing company adept at Photoshop can’t do anything to keep you from looking unkempt and unprofessional if they wanted to.

More eye catching
A photo would help make your otherwise drab and boring business card seem alive. Your face would add some human touch to something that seems so indifferent. Your face would certainly make your business card more appealing and eye catching.

Disadvantage:
Professionally done photos are not cheap. You have to spend money to get the right photo for your business card printing. You would not want the quality of a photo taken by your mobile phone, would you?

To add a photo or not – the final answer is for you to make. Whether you want your photo in your business cards or not always depend on the needs of your marketing campaign and your business.
